New Delhi: Getting a passport is a lengthy and protocol-driven process as relatively compared to obtaining other national identities including a voter’s ID card, driving license, UIDAI-controlled Aadhaar card, Income Tax Department-issued PAN card etc. But, nowadays, the exercise of acquiring a passport has become slightly easier with the advent of Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs). All the passport applicants are required to pay a definitive amount according to the prescribed fee for different individuals.
The Passport Seva Kendra offers a rebate of 10 per cent on basic passport fee for a fresh passport application to minor applicants less than or equal to the age of 8 years and senior citizens above the age of 60 years. All passport applicants, other than the minors below the age of 8 years and senior citizens over the age of 60 years, are required to pay full passport fees as applicable with respect to their categories.
Passport Seva Kendra also offers a facility with which all the prospective passport applicants can check the passport application fee via the online fee calculator available on Passport Seva Kendra website, https://portal2.passportindia.gov.in. PSK levies different application fees for a fresh application and for the reissue of passport. Further, the passport application fee varies according to the age bracket of individuals.
To check the passport application fees, a person can visit Passport Seva Kendra website, https://portal2.passportindia.gov.in and click on ‘Fee Calculator’ option given in the box under ‘Information Corner’ box on the homepage of the website. The person will be directed to the passport fee calculator window. On the passport fee calculator page, an individual is required to select the ‘application type’, ‘type of service’, ‘applicant’s age’ and the ‘required scheme’ to get the applicable passport application fee.
The person is also required to select the ‘number of pages required’ in the passport booklet for applicants between the ages of 15 to 18 years and applicants over the age of 18 years. The applicants between the ages of 15 and 18 years are also required to select the validity of the passport. The passport application fees will be displayed according to the selection made. The passport application fees vary from Rs 1,000 to a maximum of Rs 4,000.
