New Delhi: The PAN card application process has been extremely streamlined with the institution of online systems following which individuals, as well as business entities, can apply for PAN cards via the Income Tax Department’s online portal. Individual applicants are required to provide proof of address, proof of identity and proof of date of birth. According to Tax Information Network (TIN) of the I-T Department, the parents/guardians are entitled to submit their documents certifying their date of birth, address and identity according to the prescribed list of documents in case the applicant is minor (below the age of 18 years).
PAN card application: Documents accepted as valid ID proof
For the proof of identity, resident individuals can provide a copy of any document from Aadhaar card, voter ID card, driving license, passport, ration card with photograph, photo identity card issued by the government, arm’s license, or pensioner card having a photograph of the applicant.
Other documents accepted as valid proof of identity include central government health scheme card or ex-servicemen contributory health scheme photo card, certificate of identity in original signed by a Member of Parliament (MP)/Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA)/Municipal Councilor or a Gazetted officer or an original bank certificate on letterhead from the branch (along with name and stamp of the issuing officer) with duly attested photograph and bank account number of the applicant.
PAN card application: Documents accepted as valid address proof
For certifying the address, an applicant can submit any document from Aadhaar card, voter ID card, driving license, passport, post office passbook having address of the applicant, passport of spouse, latest property tax assessment order, government-issued domicile certificate, property registration document, employer certificate in original, or allotment letter of accommodation issued by government of not more than three years old.
Other documents accepted as valid proof of address include a copy of Electricity Bill, landline telephone/broadband connection bill, water bill, consumer gas connection card or book or piped gas bill, bank account statement, depository account statement, credit card statement or an address certificate signed by a MP/MLA/Municipal Councilor or a Gazetted Officer.

Aadhaar card, voter ID card, driving license, passport, matriculation certificate or mark sheet of recognized board, birth certificate, government-issued photo ID, domicile certificate, central government health scheme card or ex-servicemen contributory health scheme photo card, pension payment order, marriage certificate, or affidavit sworn before a magistrate stating the date of birth.
