Aadhaar or Unique Identity Number (UID) is the 12-digit number involving random numbers given by UIDAI to the residents of India after satisfying the verification process laid down by the Authority.  This number is very important, as it is your Aadhaar identification code.

When you visit a bank or file for ITR or apply PAN, it is this 12-digit biometric number which is asked to be fed. Hence, it is important that you do not lose your UID. But in case, if you do lose your Aadhaar card, then do not worry, UIDAI does allow citizens to retrieve it via online. The Aadhaar-maker Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has motivated citizens to update their Aadhaar and various guidelines are issued in times of error and lost.

At UIDAI, you can use either your Aadhaar registered email ID or Mobile number to retrieve your Aadhaar. According to the rules of Aadhaar, your registered Mobile Number / Email which you had provided at the time of enrolment is mandatory to retrieve your lost UID / EID. However, what happens when you do not have your registered mobile number and have lost your Aadhaar card. Do not worry, as UIDAI also allows customers to order for reprint of the Aadhaar card via online even when there is no registered mobile number.

UIDAI via its Twitter account said, “Order a reprint of your Aadhaar Letter online from: https://resident.uidai.gov.in/aadhaar-reprint   If you have lost your Aadhaar & don’t have registered mobile no., you can order a reprint of your Aadhaar letter from this service using your current mob. no. to receive OTP & tracking no.”

Here’s how you can order your lost Aadhaar card using your current mobile number. 

Step 1 – Visit uidai.gov.in.

Step 2 – Click on ‘Order Aadhaar Reprint’.

Step 3 – Enter Aadhaar number and other details.

Step 4 – Give Mobile number for verification.

Step 5 – Make payment and get SRN.
